New Trey Songz

TreySongz- Anticipation Front CoverTrey Songz- Anticipation Back CoverAs we all patiently wait for the August 4th release of Trey Songz’ third studio album, READY, he gives us a little something to hold us over for the next month. The new King of Remixes has released Anticipation which is ironically all original songs… 12 good tracks and I won’t go into a detailed description of the mixtape simply because I feel that his own description is much better than mine could ever be. Thus, below I’ve posted what Trey said on his blog… F.Y.I the Prince fan in me loves the “Purple Rain” inspired “Yo Side of the Bed” (its no “Purple Rain” by far though.. but its cool).

Many of you may ask, Why ANTICIPATION? Well lets break it down shall we:

An⋅tic⋅i⋅pa⋅tion [an-tis-uh-pey-shuhn] -noun

1. realization in advance, intuition; foretaste.

2. Musically – a tone introduced in advance of its harmony so that it sounds against the preceding chord.

Musically, I’m currently in a creative space like no other. I feel as though whenever a mic is put in front of me, I can do no wrong. At a time in the music industry where album sales are low, fans are fickle, inconsistent, or more into the various songs than they are the particular artist, I feel that I must give u a reason to love me. Embed in you a desire to love me and an appreciation for the music. I must show you that not only do I LOVE what I do but I also do it well.

The creation of ANTICIPATION began after I presented READY to my label the first time. I just started recording on my days off and the music felt great and decided that I’d rather share the music than let it sit and be idle. This is music without politics, without creative boundaries.

Troy (my mentor and founder & CEO of Songbook Ent.) and I have been making music since I was 15. There was a time when thoughts of monotonous melodies or redundant choruses wasn’t THE KEY to making a hit record. Music that just felt good. Although they’re present at times the boundaries are endless in this body of work, giving you a (1) realization in advance to READY.

What do I mean by READY? Well, lets do this one more time.

Read⋅y [red-ee] –adjective

1. completely prepared or in fit condition for immediate action or use

I like to say don’t get READY…STAY READY!!! But until then…Here is ANTICIPATION…

WHAT YOU WAITIN ON!? Are you READY?

Busta Rhymes - I Bullshit You NotIf you grew up in the 90’s and hip-hop (specifically East Coast) played a major role in your everyday life then you will be happy to hear that Bussa Buss is back… I Bullshit You Not. Yeah I Rep for the SOUTH Too!!!!

This is an Equal Opportunity blog… with that said I present to you Rich Boy’s Pacc Man Mixtape.

rich-boy-pacc-man2

I’ve felt Rich Boy’s previous releases and yes from time to time my music choice will shock those that know me well. Many will argue that he is not Hip-Hop but I don’t think it’s fare for a bunch of eastcoast fans to write him off because his style doesn’t appeal to them. People from his region love him and thats good enough (just think, at one time people claimed that NWA and westcoast rappers were ruining Hip-Hop and EVERYONE adopted their style in the 90’s). Now with this mixtape is not impressive… it’s Rich Boy and honestly I think we’ve heard the best of him. Some artist grow with more experiecne but I’ve yet to hear him take a step in that direction… BUT if its what you are in the mood for then this is for you. Download Here!!!!!!

IB3 – Honorable Mention

I give credit to twitter (Solange) for putting me on to IB3. Coming from a girl that loves hip-hop and always wanted to be a different female rapper growing up (Queen Latifah, Monie Love, Pepa, Roxanne Shante, and even Lil Kim in her early days) I am excited to say that IB3 is like none of the aforementioned emcees. She is Ingrid Burley from the Third Ward of Houston (oh and if you don’t like her fuck you). IB3 gives a new life line to dying breed that used to be the Female Emcee. Yeah, she is from the South but the snap songs and dances are boring to her. Yeah, she is a woman but she is not making Sprite bottles disappear in her mouth. Yeah, she does keep it real but she is not Timberland trampling niggas in the club. IB3 reminds me of my cool as cousin I used to look up to when I was young: she is more mature than all her peers and the guys respect her more than other girls but she is still so down to earth that you just may catch her smoking with with the guys at the park.

“Honorable Mention” is more than a mixtape that an artist put out to remain relevant while they prepare for the album release, truthfully speaking I would buy “Honorable Mention” and put it on repeat without hesitation. Lyrically IB3 must be respected (rappers will get their feelings hurt if they sleep on her), content wise IB3’s versatility goes above and beyond what is accepted today; hitting topics such as infidelity, relationships, partying, and gives you personal accounts of her experience in the industry and talks dropping out of college to follow her dream… oh yeah, smoking is topic of choice as well. Whether she is quoting Jay-Z, talking new fans who once slept on her, or mocking all the “gangsta rappers” lyrical content IB3’s skills are real and her love for music and rhyming is apparent.

I am not going to belittle such a great piece by singling out “hot verses” or quotes; it would do the MixTape no justice. I will state that “Radio,” “Keeps it Gangsta,” and “Cheat on You” are a few of my favorites because I relate to those the most but do not be confused: all 16 tracks are crack… there is a song on there for any and everybody (and if you don\’t think so… Fuck You!! IB3\’s words, not mine)… DOWNLOAD NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
