Bobby RayakaB.o.B. couldn’t wait until May 25th for the release of his first official album, B.o.B. Presents the Adventures of Bobby Ray(2010, Grand Hustle) so he gave the peopleMay 25th(his 6th mixtape). With features from J. Cole, Asher Roth and Charles Hamilton; May 25th is a decent prelude to what many expect to be a great album (like nothing we’ve heard before being that B.o.B. gives us a Hip-Hop/Country/Rock/Funk/R&B influenced “OutKast/Gnarls Barkley/he sounds like Bobby Ray” type of sound). He may not be YOUR twist but if your twist is good music, get with it. Shouts to DJ Drama and the Apphiliates!!!
Other than Chrisette Michele and Jadakiss’ latest album there isn’t any LP I’ve checked out lately. For the most part I’ve been listening to mix-tapes (because the radio is inconsistent and unreliable). Some are new and some are old; some are fresh in the game and some been doing it for years; some are big names and some may remain nameless in your book… I’m going to post the link and a track or two from each one nonetheless.
If you grew up in the 90’s and hip-hop (specifically East Coast) played a major role in your everyday life then you will be happy to hear that Bussa Buss is back… I Bullshit You Not. With his new mixtape gives the people a lil something before the May 19th release of his 8th studio album Back On My B.S. With features from Maino, Raekwon, and his long time partner Spliff Star, Busta shows that if you can FLOW, you can stand the test of time and remain relevant. If you don’t know, I am a huge fan of The Dream. I think his work is amazing; I truly admire his ear and ability to appeal to your senses with his music. Whether you like him or not once you’ve listened to one of his songs chances are that you will be repeating it from then on. The Dream is one of the biggest influences in the industry right now; whether he produced or wrote the latest hit (Blame It) or if he is singing his own chart topper. Below is a video for “Hater” that I thought was interesting (something similar was done before with Lupe Fiasco’s “And He Gets the Girl”)… Check it out.
Just when some were starting to question what was going on in the world of R&B, Chrisette Michele’s second album Epiphany quiets all naysayers. Chrisette Michele stated that this album would be more upbeat and youthful than her 2007 release I Am, which in many cases means “this will be a pop-filled album with about 7 or 8 singles.” Luckily for those of us who appreciate the emotion, soul and power Chrisette possesses with her voice, that is not the case. Epiphany does have tracks that you can vibe too: “Playing Our Song,” “Fragile,” and “Mr. Right,” but the soul is still there. Each song gives you a different facet of Chrisette’s diverse voice: she can sing jazz, soul, comtemporary R&B (and no they are not the same!); she can make you feel her on “I’m Okay” or make stir up a few emotions on “Blame It On Me” or remind of the love you let walk by on “Notebook.” It is a great album for the true R&B lover; not overtly commercialized, great lyrics, no auto-tune, and a beautiful… It all makes for a great listen as you get ready for the day, as you settle down before dinner, or as you chill out that evening.
Now, Brian Seo’s “Somebody Else” definitely made the Zune before the song finished. I don’t like to pigeon hole artist but I’ll state that he has a fine falsetto (kinda sexy if you ask me). This slow jam is not something you jam to but more of the sit back and reminisce about the one that got away.
Paula DeAnda could easily go pop crazy and no one would dare to ask any questions but I like her best trying to swing the the R&B folk. “Back From Alone” is a well written track. Continue reading ‘Heavy Rotation…? 5.1.09′
This is like heaven in a zip file… DJ Daddy Dog put together this mixtape featuring about 30 (YES 30) of the hottest Hip-Hop track from the 80’s. Continue reading ‘Strictly for The Old Skool’
When I posted this about a week ago, I failed to add the link to download the track… so I’ve re-posted and you can DOWNLOAD Cassie’s Must Be Love with young UK sensation Willis Rose. (Also, this is a direct re-post because my feelings have not changed.. I heard the original and it does nothing for me.. Willis handled this one!)
Cassie & Diddy recently released “Must be Love” which is expected as the first single off her next album (You already know Diddy’s album is coming out SOON.. hmmm…). BUT one of the UK’s rising stars (Willis Rose) took it and added a lil of his own flavor to the track. The background vocals, ad-libs, and Willis‘ young, fresh, and sexy verse fits in as if he was in the booth with Cassie & Diddy himself… I know this can’t be love but I know I’m in love with this song right now!
Here are a few new downloads for your ipod (or zune if you know like I know). The first track is from Chrisette Michele titled “Blame It On Me.” When the song first started I was a little weary of what was to come but Chrisette has a beautiful voice and knows what to do with it. It’s a simple song but wonderfully sung (and I’m sure many of you will be able to relate so I def recommend). Also, featured is a track from Lenny Kravitz “Let Love Rule” the Justice Remix version. I’m not a huge Kravitz fan but I rock with some of his music and this one is lovely on the ears if I must say so myself. Then if you keep it moving there is a little Busta, Red & Meth, Ghostface, Raekwon, David Banner, Talib, Mickey Factz, Jadakiss, Drake and more…
