Best I Ever Had Video

Okay so Drake has a hit single on his hands with Best I Ever Had… how do you keep the momentum with that song? You release a video, right? Right, but it should be a good video… I understand that its not the ’90’s and artists aren’t spending tons of money and energy on the production of a decent video but at least make it entertaining. I just knew that the artistic genius that is Kanye West would direct a great video BUT NO he did not. I’m honestly hoping that the concept was too deep for me and went over my head.. if that isn’t the case then you have a great track, girls, a gym, and a few funny spots about 5 minutes in. But I love Drake and he’s still the best I ever heard (recently).

The Biz… MJ, Jay-Z, and Drake

the-biz1PP31633-MJ-Album-CoverFollowing the untimely death of the great Michael Jackson, it was expected that fans would come out of the woodwork to stock up on Mike’s albums and music. Just as expected Michael Jackson (already the undisputed King of Pop) proved himself to be the King again. The preliminary sales numbers from the Nielsen SoundScan reveals that nine out of the top ten spots of Billboards Top Pop Catalog Albums chart will be held by Michael Jackson related projects. Michael has a record eight of the top ten spots and the Jackson 5 holds the ninth. Collectively, Michael Jackson’s solo albums sold 415,000 copies the past week with 58% of them being digital sales. For more details and a report of the countless Billboard records broken by Michael Jackson this past week CLICK HERE!!!

roc_nationEveryone was wondering why Blueprint 3 continued to be delayed and I’m sure the world was shocked when Jay-Z bought out of his contract with Def Jam before releasing the highly anticipated album… Well “Blueprint 3″ will be released on September 11th (exactly 8 years after the release of “Blueprint”) through Jay-Z’s new Roc Nation imprint. The “Blueprint 3″ album will be distributed through Atlantic but the other artsist and Roc Nation works will be distributed through Sony. For more details CLICK HERE!!!

drake_exclusiveIt was reported a while back that Universal Motown had won the bidding war for hip-hop’s next big thing, Drake. Unfortunately (for them) they came close but no cigar. Drake has signed with Lil Wayne’s Young Money imprint and will be distributed through Universal Republic. Drake’s highly anticipated major label debut, “Thank Me Later,” is scheduled to be released later this year. For the full story CLICK HERE!!!

Drake’s Home

drake_exclusiveFour mixtapes, countless verses, collaborations with the best and over two years of straight grinding Drake (Drizzy Drake Rogers, Aubrey Graham, the dude from Degrassi or whatever you wanna call him) has found a home with Universal Motown. Speculation of a deal with Sylvia Rhone and Universal Motown has been circulating for months but it is official now. Drake joins big names such as Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes and Akon and much acclaimed new comers Kid Cudi and Asher Roth over there at the Universal Motown imprint. It is also reported that Lil Wayne will executive produce Drake’s major label debut, Thank Me Later.

Heavy Rotation…? 4.29.09

chrisette-michele-epiphany

Here are a few new downloads for your ipod (or zune if you know like I know). The first track is from Chrisette Michele titled “Blame It On Me.” When the song first started I was a little weary of what was to come but Chrisette has a beautiful voice and knows what to do with it. It’s a simple song but wonderfully sung (and I’m sure many of you will be able to relate so I def recommend). Also, featured is a track from Lenny Kravitz “Let Love Rule” the Justice Remix version. I’m not a huge Kravitz fan but I rock with some of his music and this one is lovely on the ears if I must say so myself. Then if you keep it moving there is a little Busta, Red & Meth, Ghostface, Raekwon, David Banner, Talib, Mickey Factz, Jadakiss, Drake and more…

The Art of Freestyling…

I’m going to start by stating that in the last five months there is NO RAPPER I have listened to more than Drake. With that said, I was in the car with my homies Ani and Christine when we heard Drake “freestyling” on Hot97. Now being that the three of us are real hip-hop fans we were all ears and gave Drake is props for freestyling live on the air. I actually made the statement: “That’s why I fucks with Drake; everybody be spitting written rhymes calling them freestyles but my man went in on Flex.” Yup, that’s what I said. Little did I know that less than a week later the video would come out showing Drake reading the lyrics from his Black Berry. I’m I shocked? Hell no! I won’t even say that I am disappointed because some just aren’t good with freestyles and at the end of the day this doesn’t take any credibility as an emcee from Drake… his is still ill in my eyes BUT I just would like to know: What happened to the art of FREESTYLIN?!?!?!

This is new G.O.O.D. Music artist Big Sean rhyming backstage of the G.O.O.D. Music set at SxSW 2009. I’m feeling his rhyme no doubt but I question whether or not it was straight off the top because it sounds as if its from a song he already has.

Here’s that ni**a named LUDA!!!!!! Now this is what I am talking about right here.  Freestyling! Luda even refers to things inside the booth throughout his rhyme which gives more credibility to this being off the top. And let’s not forget that Big Tigger was always giving you it straight off the top… That’s classic right there.

Okay folks… I’m going to end this post with that OH SO CLASSIC NOTORIOUS B.I.G. serving wack emcees on the corner. I love this man… I wish I could walk down the street and here some ppl rhyming like this; I don’t want to hear none of that Smack DVD stuff either. I’m talking about emcees outside doing what emcees do. RIP B.I.G.
