All my friends know (and those who follow me on twitter) that I miss Kanye… five months without him in music game and I truly feel like something is missing. So over atitsthereal.comthey created a video dedication to the man we love and miss… the best of all time (of recent times lol)… Mr. West, that is… check it out…
Okay so Drake has a hit single on his hands with Best I Ever Had… how do you keep the momentum with that song? You release a video, right? Right, but it should be a good video… I understand that its not the ’90’s and artists aren’t spending tons of money and energy on the production of a decent video but at least make it entertaining. I just knew that the artistic genius that is Kanye West would direct a great video BUT NO he did not. I’m honestly hoping that the concept was too deep for me and went over my head.. if that isn’t the case then you have a great track, girls, a gym, and a few funny spots about 5 minutes in. But I love Drake and he’s still the best I ever heard (recently).
I will admit that when Kanye started singing and using auto-tune I wasn’t particularly upset about it. I truly didn’t find anyting wrong with it because I felt that it was an artistic move for ‘Ye and simply what he felt like doing at the time oppsed to a financial move to sell records. With that said I love Mr. Hudson’s Supernova featuring a Kanye West who some may say is singing too much. Okay so it may not be hip-hop, shoot me; Kanye may not a be good singer, shoot me again; but there is no denying that he is a hell of an artist and Supernova is a good song. And the video is Pop-Art at its finest… Haa! lol
Mr. Hudson - Supernova New Music Video (feat. Kanye West)
We are still waiting on The Blueprint 3 album but Jay-Z is setting up for a summer 2009 tour. Live Nation has confirmed that Jay-Z will be touring this summer and Ciara, who has recently released her third album Fantasy Ride, will be the opening act. Initially, Ciara posted on her twitter that she would be accompanying Jay-Z on a 10-city tour. That claim has been refuted by Jay-Z’s reps who has said that the tour will not include 10 cities. Live Nation has confirmed 5 dates thus far.

In other news, I am excited to say that The Game is planning to release his fourth album before the end of this year. The LP is titled The R.E.D. Album and despite what many would assume, the title has no to association to The Game’s Blood affiliation. The Game says that R.E.D. represents his re-dedication to hip-hop, to rapping, to Compton, to his family, and everything in his life.
The Game says that after three albums (his latest was clouded with talks of retirement) it’s time for change and something different. “I was wondering to myself how I’m gonna elevate myself and even change the field. Three albums … what do you talk about after three albums? I ain’t selling crack and gangbanging and shooting sh– up. My beefs have been down-low. So what do you really talk about? I just wanna rap, man. I just wanna do music. Whatever it turns out to be, it turns out to be. Long as every song has that collective feel — they gel — then we good. I’m just gonna rap this time.”
The R.E.D. Album will include production from Timbaland, J.R. Rotem, Drumma Boy and Mike Lynn. Cool and Dre are expected to get involved and The Game hopes to catch Kanye West for collaborations as well.
There aren’t any “big” releases this week BUT Method Man is dropping Blackout, Vol. 2 (Def Jam) Tues. April 28th.
Below you’ll find a few tracks featuring various artist including Trey Songz, The Game, Skyzoo, Shire, Black Eyed Peas, Diddy, Cassie and others… Take a listen and download if you like.
It’s been a while since I’ve shown love to my folks down south so this is way overdue. Reported track from Paul Wall’s forthcoming album Fast Lane (Asylum) features Diddy’s boyz Yung Joc and Gorilla Zoe. “I’m so high I believe I can fly!” That’s how I feel right now (no illegal substance involved) so it’s rocking in my headphones… Paul Wall – Fly
I don’t usually rocks with Gucci Mane (AT ALL and this is exactly why) BUT on his latest “Wasted” featuring Plies (the one I hate to admit I like) he accomplishes what seems to be the norm these days. It’s hook is catchy and the lyrics aren’t memorable in the least bit… BUT it will soon be on a radio near you… Gucci Mane – Wasted
Mos Def covers one of my favorite tracks from 808’s & Heartbreak, “Say You Will” and I must say that I Effin Love It!!!! The live band and the lack of autotune does the song much justice… gives it a very jazzy feel and lessens the dark mood that Kanye set with the original. Mos Def – Say You Will
After a few disappointing leaks from his upcoming album Relapse (May 2009) Eminem gives us “3AM”which reminds why we all love Em even when we don’t want to. I’ll call this a lyrical exercise at its best.
Now this shit IS RIDICULOUS… now anyone who knows me kn0ws that I love all hip-hop from all regions… Good muic is good music. A good song is a good song and a hood anthem is a hood anthem… BUT this track from the upcoming Gangsta Gillz album (and I loveDJ Drama, he went to my high school) is not my favorite or even to my liking… that’s all I’ll say. SMH
Who the F*ck Is Mickey Factz isn’t a mixtape of new track buts its still worth listening to. For those that haven’t been convinced just yet that Mickey Factz is one to look out for… Download Here!!! And those of you who already know that he is not to be f*cked with… Download Here!!!!! I will not lie, it took me some time to pick up on the homie. A friend told me about him a while back but I was being hardheaded, lmao. He is straight though people: lyrical skills are there, song making skills are decent, respect for the art is there (check Mona Lisa 2008), and his verses are better… Holla!!!
[I love this artwork... I wish I could make it a poster and hang it in my room... now back to the music!] Upon my discovery of Dat Kid from Cleveland, Kid Cudi, I have been extremely excited about things to come from him. On his lastest mixtape he called in his G.O.O.D. Music fam (and Hip-Hop heavyweights) Kanye and Common for the “I Poke Her Face” callabo (I rocks with the track too). “Look Up in Da Stars” is one of my favorite songs of 2009, PERIOD!!! He also has features from Consequence, Wale, 88-Keys and a few others… BUT trust me Kid Cudi holds his own on every track! Now as far as your expectations… you may want to discard those and adopt an open musical mind. That’s exactly what you are going to get and honestly that’s what separates Kid Cudi from the rest… he’s going to give you rap, r&b, and some alternative… he’s going to stunt and talk shit, inspire and reflect, tell stories and give personal experieces. It’s good music (pun intended); thus I am with it… Download Here!!!!! Like ASAP… Dream on G.O.O.D.!!!
This is 1 of 30 tracks from the first authorized independent release from Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music imprint. The album will be titled G.O.O.D. Music, G.O.O.D. Night and will feature KRS-1, Jennifer Hudson, Twista, Adam Levine and of course the G.O.O.D. Music artist. It’s due next month.
Amazing is a true understatement for what Mr. West and Hype Williams have given us with this new video. Kanye’s performance is simple yet the shots and scenery is out of this world. It’s common knowledge that Hawaii is a beautiful island… but DAMN!!Hype being the cinematic genius that he often is, in combination with artistic mastermind that is Kanye, one could not have created a better video in my opinion. The track is so powerful that it would have been too much (and a disservice to the song) to have a video that is all over the place with action and performance shots; thus the “simplicity is beauty” theme really killed it. The first verse Kanye is if front of the fire pit, second verse in the forest, third on the boat; there is no over the top movements or anything of the sort. The chorus is various aerial shots of the island… and Jeezy!!! He’s amazing, yeah he’s all that, if he ain’t on his grind… then what you call that? The video is great folks.
I’m going to start by stating that in the last five months there is NO RAPPER I have listened to more than Drake. With that said, I was in the car with my homies Ani and Christine when we heard Drake “freestyling” on Hot97. Now being that the three of us are real hip-hop fans we were all ears and gave Drake is props for freestyling live on the air. I actually made the statement: “That’s why I fucks with Drake; everybody be spitting written rhymes calling them freestyles but my man went in on Flex.” Yup, that’s what I said. Little did I know that less than a week later the video would come out showing Drake reading the lyrics from his Black Berry. I’m I shocked? Hell no! I won’t even say that I am disappointed because some just aren’t good with freestyles and at the end of the day this doesn’t take any credibility as an emcee from Drake… his is still ill in my eyes BUT I just would like to know: What happened to the art of FREESTYLIN?!?!?!
This is new G.O.O.D. Music artist Big Sean rhyming backstage of the G.O.O.D. Music set at SxSW 2009. I’m feeling his rhyme no doubt but I question whether or not it was straight off the top because it sounds as if its from a song he already has.
Here’s that ni**a named LUDA!!!!!! Now this is what I am talking about right here. Freestyling! Luda even refers to things inside the booth throughout his rhyme which gives more credibility to this being off the top. And let’s not forget that Big Tigger was always giving you it straight off the top… That’s classic right there.
Okay folks… I’m going to end this post with that OH SO CLASSIC NOTORIOUS B.I.G. serving wack emcees on the corner. I love this man… I wish I could walk down the street and here some ppl rhyming like this; I don’t want to hear none of that Smack DVD stuff either. I’m talking about emcees outside doing what emcees do. RIP B.I.G.
